Progoster Devlog - Week 10
This Sunday's work was...actually pretty lack luster. I spent two hours trying to make an OK song on Bosca CEOIL. After making something that I wasn't happy with but was willing to settle with, I realized that this game really doesn't fit with music. I tried to get back to work, but that didn't go very well.
I have about half of Sunday to finish this game before the submission officially closes. I'll be certain to make an actual level, opening and closing screen, and everything else required to make this a functioning game by that time. I have cut several things out of my life that got in the way of my productivity, and my plan is to get to work immediately after waking up so it's too late to start doing anything else.
After submitting the demo...I think I'm done. I have lost all enthusiasm with this project. I've realized something. All of the people who I've set my standards on in terms of game design have one thing in common: They aren't in high school. They don't have several other hobbies that they're dedicating their time to. Some of them don't even have work outside of game development. At this rate, I am absolutely not going to finish this game by the end of the year, and there's no way I'm going to work on it for that long. Following this, I'll probably do some game jams on weekends.
I'm sorry if this is disappointing to you. I'm rather disappointed myself. But this is better, I know it. I'm happy knowing, at the very least, that I will have finished my biggest complete project. I'll make sure to focus my game jams on learning new things so that I'll be better equipped in the future. I'll probably even spend some time learning how to make good art, good animations, good musics, good sound effects, and everything else that held this game back. Without the strict schedule and deadline, I'll be able to experiment and train. Who knows, maybe I'll reach a point where I can actually make a larger game like this in just a fraction of the time. I'd be lying if I said that this wasn't incredibly exciting.
If you've been reading this for this long, thank you dearly. I'll make sure to make the last devlog on the day of the release tomorrow.
