Progoster Devlog - Week 3
Sunday
On Sunday I added a (placeholder) title screen!
What surprised me the most about this task was how easy it was. I had to fiddle with a lot of small stuff for a while, yes, but I spent much less time fiddling than I expected to. I also changed the "oGame" object (which is responsible for, among other things, making sure that options are followed in the game) to persistent so that its variables would stay the same between rooms. I was expecting this to cause some problems, but it didn't! I could reset the game just fine, and the options would stay the same between rooms and resets. It was very refreshing.
Again, don't worry, this is not the final title screen for the game.
Monday
I added an option in the pause menu to go to the title screen!
Tuesday
While adding the new option, I accidentally changed the origin of the menu's sprite so that when I opened it in game, it was way off to the side. After trying to figure out if it was a problem with the code, I eventually solved the problem.
Wednesday
The camera pan still snaps annoyingly at the end. I fiddled around with it for a while but couldn't find a solution. I eventually decided to just post my problem to r/gamemaker. So while I am technically making progress, the game itself isn't improved from yesterday.
Thursday - Saturday
An incredibly nice redditor by the name of heptavolt continuously answered my questions and helped me over the span of multiple days! Thank God for the internet, right? While the screen transitions are now silky smooth, the screen shake has become a bit bugged. We're working on fixing that right now.
While I was there, I used r/gamemaker's weekly Screenshot Saturday to do some advertising on Reddit. While doing so, I discovered how to post videos of the game! https://streamable.com/yu2m9
I apologize for the general lack of changes this week. I actually have finals next week, so it might be even worse. But I can guarantee that I will preserver no matter how long this takes!
As always, thank you so much for reading.
